Insecure Writer’s Support Group! Plus CassaFire Special, Ninja News, and Special Announcments

It’s time for another group posting of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group! Time to release our fears to the world – or offer encouragement to those who are feeling neurotic. If you’d like to join us, click on the tab above and sign up. We post the first Wednesday of every month. I encourage everyone to visit at least a dozen new blogs and leave a comment. Your words might be the encouragement someone needs.

My awesome co-hosts today are Sheena-kay Graham, Julie Musil, Jamie Ayres, and Mike Swift! Please be sure to thank them for their time and effort to make all IWSG members feel welcome.

I’ve been working on another manuscript and after a rocky start, I have finally found my groove with the story and the main character. I’m also taking notes on things I will need to either adjust or add to the beginning.

And that’s really unusual for me. I didn’t make many changes to the last two books and the only thing I added was description. I don’t think I did much more than that with my first book, either. But with this story, I will be adding entire scenes. That will definitely stretch my writing skills.

At least it won’t mess up my chapters since dividing a manuscript into chapters is the last thing I do!

I do have a request for assistance today. I don’t ask for this kind of support often, but if you can help, I’d really appreciate it.

From February 4 – 10, CassaFire will be 99 cents at Amazon and my publisher’s site. This is the first time they have ever run a promotional special like this and have ads running at several sites, including BookBub. I’m the guinea pig, so hopefully the promotion rocks the house!
It’s also featured today at Kindle Books and Tips.

Below are some Tweets and the last one is for Facebook, blogging, or whatever. If you can help me spread the news, I would greatly appreciate it! And if you haven’t picked up CassaFire, this is a good week to do so. And bonus – CassaStorm was also reduced to $3.99!

PPPS: Look at you rocking a new WIP... Nice (suits you in the black jammies :)

Posted a tweet and the Facebook post, happy to help!

I like the new idea of Charlie's Scribes. I am sure it will be very beneficial to many.

Kirsten said...

Congrats on the progress for the new WIP!
Your writing process fascinates me, since I rarely have everything planned out when I start writing a story, with only a few scenes sketched out. (I'm trying to do better with that!) I know you'll do fine, since adding scenes later is just as easy as putting them in the first time. :)
(And I picked up CassaFire! I'm so excited to check it out!)

Shah Wharton said...

Put the last one one profile page, and my author page on Facebook (and shared that), and tweeted the awesome Battle Star review quote :)

Thanks for the mention of my book too!

Definitely going to take a look at the Charlie services

Glad everything is working out with your writing too. We need to stretch ourselves. if we don't we never know what we can accomplish. X

Good luck with your promotion! I'll tweet about it.

I think each new project stretches your writing skills.

Charlie's Scribes sounds like a good idea. I could have used them to write today's post, since preparing it cost me a lot of writing time last night.

It's a pleasure co-hosting this month, and I've always enjoyed your blog. Although my last month with IWSG, it's not the last time you'll see me. I'll be around every time I have something to say, which is all the time.

Thanks again for everything.

It's always interesting how our writing processes evolve the more/longer we write. I'm so much more of a plotter than I ever was before.

Love the idea of Charlie's Scribes.

These first Wednesdays come around so quickly. Lookng forward to reading lots of blogs and learning about authors. You divide your story into chapters AFTER you've written it? I've heard of that, but how do you find anything when you want to return to add the scene? Interesting. Maybe you use scrivener or ywriter? Shouted about your .99 special on FB. As always, thanks for founding IWSG!

Juliana Haygert said...

That's great you're realizing what needs to be changed/added as you go. It makes the revision/editing process much smoother, I think.

Robin said...

Your publisher is sneaky. They discount everything but the FIRST book!!! I tend to buy first books in a trilogy when they go on sale. If I like it, I am more inclined to buy the rest. (I want to know how it ends.) In the case of your series, if I want the good deal on the second and third, I have to pay full price for the first!!! In other words, buy them all. Interesting marketing strategy!!!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Al, you know Mark will be happy to do so.

JQ, thank you! I guess I just find it by section.

Juliana, thanks! And no, I was suckered into writing another one.

Clare, makes it easier than having to rearrange the chapters.

Thanks, Stephen!

Jaybird, that would be great.

I'm still trying to get into my new characters' heads. I have faith it will come. It always does. Mostly I'm now trying to figure out how the beginning 'chaos' should go.

Hope the sale goes well.

Congrats to all those with new books out and coming out!

Hi Alex,
I tried to leave a comment just a while ago but never got confirmation that it went through. So...I thought I would try again.

I have tweeted your promo. Here's hoping you sale heaps.

Last month I took on the task of hitting every blog on the IWSG list. I started at the end & worked my way forward. You were supposed to be my last hit, but I think it took me to long to get done (7 days). My post of thanks never showed up in your comment feed. It was an amazing thing getting to connect with all these writers. I want to take a moment now to tell you how appreciative I am for this group of people. You did a good thing starting the hop.

Birgit, thank you!

Rachel, the book is polished and ready to send to my publisher before I divide it up!

Thanks, Karen!

MJ, I'll try to do better.

Thanks Tessa and Lisa!

Yvonne, I'm sorry.

Thanks, Tia. And give it a try.

Liza, thanks!

Sia, I hope that's what it means. And thanks.

Patricia, I do try to make them uniform.

Elizabeth, you're welcome and thank you!

Leanne, thank you! You did good if you got through the list. I hit about three-fourths of it in three days.

So excited about your promo so, of course, I tweeted. The Top Gun & Battlestar Gallactica reference was great. The cover design contest sounds like it'll be great to watch.
I'm currently insecure about book promotion, but I'm plowing through by keeping myself creative in new ways.

Mason T. Matchak said...

My writing insecurity was indeed about fear, and about solving it through use of an 80s movie. ^_^ Hope it's helpful to someone.

I've been sharing tweets a few times per day though we lost power today for 12 hours so I'm way behind on everything.
Writing a list of things to change or add in a new WIP as I go is something I do with every book.

Hi Alex,

IWSG, oh yeah. Thankfully, you have found the groove for your latest endeavour. I don't know how you actually find the time to write what with your thoughtful, link-filled postings and your tireless interaction in the blogging community. Kudos to you, good sir.

I always tweet your blogs. I share your stuff on various social networks, even um, Farcebook. I do what I can discreetly in the background.

When I snooze, Penny takes over. However, that gang of three are doing a worthy thing.

A to Z, I will most certainly give it a miss, thank you :)

So much handy info and some great-sounding new releases, but of course CassaFire is gonna be my favorite. What stellar, well-deserved reviews!

But I won't be designing a cover for Rachel (congrats on Don't Fall) because I have no artistic abilities. I hope she gets a spectacular cover.

Congratulations to everybody who has a new release!

Its good to have a world already developed for a series. I did very little world building in my womens fiction trilogy - although building a culture is based on the same principles.
